Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Security challenges are a growing concern in many parts of Nigeria, with Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA) in Plateau State being no exception. In recent years, there has been an increase in incidents of violence, insurgency, and criminal activities, which have led to heightened insecurity and fear among residents. News broadcasting plays a critical role in shaping public perception of security challenges by providing timely information, analysis, and updates on security-related events. Through radio, television, and online platforms, news outlets can influence how the public understands and reacts to security situations. This study examines how news broadcasting affects the perception of security challenges in Bokkos LGA, focusing on the role of media in informing the public and shaping their views on safety and security (Ibrahim & Nwachukwu, 2024; Umar & Salihu, 2023).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While news broadcasts are a vital source of information regarding security issues, there is limited research on how these broadcasts shape public perception, particularly in rural areas like Bokkos LGA. In a region where insecurity is prevalent, understanding the impact of news broadcasting on public perception can help in designing better media strategies for enhancing community safety. This study seeks to evaluate the role of news broadcasting in shaping the perception of security challenges in Bokkos LGA, exploring how media coverage influences public attitudes toward security threats.
